International Photography Residency and Exhibition in Nice, France


By submitting your application to the La Vie en Bleu residency program you agree to adhere to the following Terms and Conditions. Any breach to the following Terms and Conditions can and may result in a rejection of your application.

*Note: in the following Terms and Conditions, individuals submitting their application are referred to as “the applicant” or “applicants”; Ximena Echagüe, Gandiva MediArts Co. and team are referred to as “the organizing team”; the 15 finalists selected to expose their work in the collective exhibition in June 2024 are referred to as “the finalists” and the selected applicant to participate in the residency program as “the winner”.

  1. Eligibility to the open call

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid travel document (that does not expire within the 6 months starting from the end date of the residency programme). They should verify that their travel document(s) are valid and that they are able to travel to France/European Union before submitting an entry. The organizing team is not responsible for providing any documents that the applicant may need in order to travel to France. Costs related to Visa applications or any other required documents to enter European territory will be at the cost of the applicant.

    • Applicants must register and pay via la vie-en bleu-photo.eventbrite.fr, then fill in all required fields of the woobox.com/53sxdk entry form truthfully and submit their own work for examination, after agreeing to these terms and conditions. If any plagiarism or double entries are suspected we will be forced to cancel your application.

    • Applications submitted with photography containing pornographic or violent content will not be considered.

    • An application will only be considered once the submission fee is paid and processed. The applicant will receive an email confirmation from Eventbrite.com after registering and paying. This ticket number will be requested in the Woobox.com application form.

  2. Sponsorship and team

    • This open call is organized by Gandiva MediArts Consulting., French-based company offering cultural management services, registered under French SIRET no. 839 891 553 00027. Social siege in Nice 06000, France. Website: https://mediarts.io/

    • This open call is hosted and promoted by Ximena Echague, a Brussels-based international documentary photographer. Website: https://www.ximenaechague.com

    • All questions and complaints can be addressed to: lavienbleuphotography@gmail.com. The organizing team will strive to respond within 3 working days.

    • The promotion and diffusion campaign for the open call will be led by COM for ART, a French-based arts communication and management agency , registered under SIRET no. 519 202 907 00035. Social Siege in Tourrette-Levens 06690, France. Website: https://comforart.fr/

    • The Exhibition will be organized in the Tchaikovski Gallery, a French association loi 1901, registered under SIRET no. 903 839 173 00015, social siege in 06000 Nice, France. Website: http://www.tchaikovski.org/index.php

    • The Jury for the open call will be announced 1st of February, and will consist of 3 Nice-based professional photographers.

  3. Agree

    • By submitting an entry, applicants agree to abide by the rules given here, and to accept the decisions made by the organizers and the jury as final and binding.

    • The organizers reserve themselves the right to change, modify and cancel the programme in the case of an unexpected event. The entry fees of applicants will be transferred back within 21 working days.

  4. Entry 

    • We exclusively accept entry and applications through the official channels of the La Vie en Bleu Open Call:

      1. Registration and fee to be paid via lavie-enbleu-photo.eventbrite.fr

      2. Once the ticket has been issued and paid, the candidate will receive an email confirmation inviting them to submit their application form and photography series via woobox.com/53sxdk. The applicant must answer truthfully to all fields and enter their Eventbrite Ticket number in the relevant field. 

      3. Applicants' entries will not be considered without payment via eventbrite.fr

    • Up to 3 entries are accepted per applicant, if the applicant wishes to present different series for consideration. The applicant must pay the registration fee and fill out the entry form for each entry. The second and/or third entry must be different photography series, with different eventbrite.fr ticket numbers, using the same name and email.

    • The titles of each photo must be as follows: Each image must be named with your initials, the Eventbrite ticket number and the sequence number. Ex: AH8360652719_01; AH8360652719_02; AH8360652719_03… The team will not accept personal names included in images. The jury will select the best portfolios anonymously and the team does not have the time to manually change every title of every participant one by one. 

    • If an applicant is suspected of plagiarism, and cannot convincingly prove this is not the case, their application will be canceled without refund, and they will not be able to re-submit an application for future calls

    • The open call accepts applications from December 1st, 2023 at 9:00 (CEST) until March 15th, 2024 at 00:00 PM (CEST).

    • Applicants must have paid the submission fee applicable to their situation (student or regular) in full via eventbrite.fr, and have submitted their portfolios via the Woobox.com form properly and before March 15th to be considered.

    • The results will be announced April 1st, 2024.

  5. Finalists and winner

    • The Jury will be announced February 1st, 2024. They will select the winning portfolio and the 15 other finalists.

    • The winner and finalists will be announced via social media and directly to the finalists and winner by the email they registered with on the 1st of April, 2024.

    • The winner will be invited to Nice between June 1st to the 8th, 2024 to take part in the residency programme. Accommodation and flights (in economy class) from their nearest international airport to Nice Côte d’Azur airport, or from their nearest long-distance train station to Nice Ville central train station, will be covered with a maximum of 2000 Euros.

    • The residency programme includes a 50 Euro per diem for 7 days that is to be spent by the resident as they see fit.

    • The applicant ensures in advance that they are reachable and available to cooperate with the organizing team once the results are announced in order to book the trip. They also ensure that they are available +/- 2 days around the residency dates in case the transport options require this.

    • Travel insurance and basic medical insurance is highly advised but at the discretion of the winner / resident. The organizing team will opt for cancellation insurance but not for medical or travel insurance.

    • The applicant agrees to cooperate and provide any personal information or document(s) that may be required for the organizing team to plan their stay during the residency program. These may include passport details or any other type of official documentation, date of birth, etc. Information obtained for these purposes will be kept confidential and used for the sole purpose of the residency program. 

    • The 15 finalists who are not selected for the residency will have the chance to exhibit 1 of their best submitted photographs during the collective exhibition from June 1st to June 30th, 2024 in the Tchaikovsky Gallery. This work will be chosen by the jury. This will also require availability and reachability from the finalists in order for the organizing team to coordinate the exhibition of these works.

    • The 15 finalists must send their chosen photograph for the collective exhibition within 7 days after the announcement of the results. They will also receive an email to the address communicated during the application process.

    • By submitting their work, applicants accept that this work is subject to being exhibited to the public in Nice, France in June 2024. 

    • The collective and solo exhibitions will be organized and curated by the organizing team. The finalists and resident are not directly involved in this , but can of course provide their suggestions.

  6. Liability 

    • The organizing team cannot be liable or responsible for the costs of  any accidents or injuries that may occur to the winner during the residency program. Any medical costs are completely at the expense of the winner (see also Section 5. Finalists and Winner)

    • The winner assumes all responsibility for their own safety and well-being during the residency program and takes necessary precautions to ensure that they minimize accidents or injuries. 

    • The winner agrees to abide by local laws and regulations related to photography and to respect the privacy and rights of individuals who may be photographed. The organizing team will not be responsible for any legal issues that may arise as a result of the winner’s photography and work during the residency program. 

    • The winner agrees to abide by the daily residency program defined by the organizing team and the host-mentor Ximena Echague.

  7. Privacy policy 

    • The personal information provided by applicants in the entry form will be solely available to the organizing team, and only in the context of this residency programme, for updates such as announcing results.

    • The photography series submitted via Woobox.com

    • The photography series and personal information submitted is saved on the Woobox platform, but no access is granted to Woobox administrators to any information of content submitted.

    • Only the email address can be saved to communicate about the following La Vie en Bleu edition. The applicant may opt out of this in the entry form. 

    • The personal data of applicants will only be conserved for a period of 12 months, and only used in the context of La Vie en Bleu current and following editions. Unless the applicant explicitly requests the team to erase their data.

    • If at any point during the Open Call (December 1st, 2023 - March 15th, 2024), the participant wishes to retract their application and request to remove personal information from the La Vie en Bleu database, they may simply send an email requesting this to lavienbleuphotography@gmail.com and our team will do the needful. Please see hereunder for cancellation policy.

  8. Cancellation and Refund Policy

    • Should an applicant wish to cancel their application, they are invited to send an email requesting this to lavienbleuphotography@gmail.com. However, the application fee cannot be refunded as these fees cover the processing and administration of each application. Our team can offer to transfer their application to the next edition.

    • Should an applicant wish to modify the content of their application, they are requested to send an email requesting this within 7 days of sending their application to lavienbleuphotography@gmail.com. The application fee will not be reimbursed. Past 7 days, it will not be possible to modify the content and the applicant will be invited to purchase a new admission via eventbrite.fr and submit a new application via woobox.com. 

    • Should the winner have to cancel:

      1. Before the purchase of the tickets: the organizing team will select another finalist to take part in the residency. The application fee will not be reimbursed.

      2. After the purchase of the tickets, during the cancellation period: the organizing team will cancel the trip and select another finalist to take part in the residency. The application fee will not be reimbursed.

      3. Less than 10 days before the start of the residency: The organizing team will cancel the trip and select a finalist residing within less than 1000 km to invite. Unless for a very serious medical or personal reason that must be justified, the winner who has canceled will not be able to re-submit an application for future calls. The application fee will not be reimbursed.

      4. During the residency: the remaining days left in the programme will be at the expense of the winner and the organizing team will search for other photography to exhibit in the gallery (finalists, jury, etc). Unless for a very serious medical or personal reason  that must be justified, the winner who has canceled will not be able to re-submit an application for future calls. The application fee will not be reimbursed.

    • The organizing team reserves itself the right to cancel or change the terms of the call and residency at any time but must send the amended terms to all concerned applicants. See section 3. Agreement to the rules. 

By agreeing to the official rules, the applicant acknowledges to have affirmatively reviewed, accepted, and agreed to all of the Terms and Conditions mentioned in this document. They understand that thereafter, these Terms become legally binding.
